Volvo sold 1,001 cars in September as global supply continues stabilising

A 62 per cent increase in sales year-on-year drove a more than 1,000-car result for Volvo Car Australia in September.

Volvo Car Australia sold more than 1,000 cars in September, a jump of more than 62 per cent compared to 2021 as strong demand for electric vehicles continues.


VFacts data shows Volvo sold 1,001 vehicles, up from 615 in 2021 and 661 in 2020.


The Volvo XC40 ranked first in the small SUV over $40,000 segment, with 515 sold, while the Volvo XC90 was the third highest-selling large SUV over $70,000 - with 168 sales.


The 1,001 sales makes up part of Volvo Cars’ global sales of 49,356 for the month, up 4.5 per cent compared to the same month last year.

VFacts data shows Volvo sold 1,001 vehicles, up from 615 in 2021 and 661 in 2020.

Recharge vehicles made up 31.9 per cent of sales, while fully electric vehicles accounted for 12.6 per cent.


Covid-19 outbreaks in China continued impacting output from manufacturing plants, though it has been normalising over recent months.


European sales hit 19,358 cars, up 7 per cent on last September, with Recharge vehicles accounting for 57.9 per cent of sales. In China, sales rose 53.1 per cent to 14,845, while in the US sales dropped 29.1 per cent to 6,627.


Over the year so far, Volvo Cars has sold 428,987 cars, which is down 19.2 per cent compared to the same period last year.
