The EX30 Ultra Twin: Going fast

Volvo’s smallest electric car is also its quickest – and it’s rapidly gaining quite a following.

Volvo EX30

Built for performance inside and out, the EX30 Ultra Twin covers 0-100km/h in 3.6 seconds thanks to twin motors, 422 bhp and instant torque.

A gold medal winner in the 2024 Australian Good Design Awards, the EX30 has also claimed the prized World Urban Car title, the Red Dot ‘best of the best’ Design Award and the Wallpaper* Smart Space Award for ‘most revolutionary transport’.

Small footprint, huge spec

The EX30’s small footprint packs a huge spec, like a panoramic roof, park pilot assist – which means it can park itself – and 360° cameras that provide a bird’s eye view to help navigate tight spaces.

There’s also mood lighting and ambient themes, air cleansing and an intelligent air quality management system that automatically shuts off air intakes and activates air recirculation when external pollution poses a risk.

It’s 5G capable, comes with built-in Google apps and services, and the Volvo EX30 app means owners can quickly and easily check on the car’s status, find and control charging and remotely pre-climatise it – so the EX30’s interior is cool even as Australian summer hots up.

There’s also a powerful 1,040W Harmon Kardon sound system that delivers both high fidelity and serious, air-moving bass performance.

Plus, over the air software updates means the EX30 keeps getting better over time – without owners having to visit a service centre for updates and upgrades.

Meanwhile, although it’s Volvo’s smallest ever SUV, the Ultra Twin’s high performance power train means it is highly capable of towing.

In town, one-pedal driving and regenerative braking maximises efficiency – but when the car does need a top-up, the EX30 is equipped to use 175kW DC chargers, which enable a 10-80 per cent charge in as little as 28 minutes.

Run-off road mitigation helps prevent the EX30 unintentionally leaving the road, while intersection auto braking is designed to detect crossing traffic when turning at intersections – and automatically apply the brakes if a collision is imminent.

Big on safety

With a 5-star ANCAP rating, Volvo’s smallest SUV is also packed with safety features.

Automated front and rear emergency braking is designed to detect potential collisions and hit the brakes autonomously if the driver does not respond. A lane keeping aid helps mitigate drift, while blind spot information system (BLIS) with steer assist helps prevent collisions when changing lanes.

All of which adds up to a surprisingly large amount of car.
