Troubleshooting Trips in the Volvo Cars app
If you’re having trouble recording your journeys or journey information is missing there are a number of steps you can take to help fix the problem.
Requirements for using Trips
In order to use Trips, ensure that the internet terms of service have been accepted in the car’s display.
To accept internet terms of service:
- In the car's display go to Settings > Privacy > Internet terms of service and follow the instructions.
You need a Google account to set up the Trips app in the car.
Ensure that consent for Trips has been granted in your car profile.
Limitations when using Trips
Storage limits:
- Journeys made within the last 400 days will be stored in Trips. Older journeys can’t be recovered.
- Journeys not yet displayed in the Volvo Cars app are stored in the Trips app in the car, which has a capacity of approximately 500 trips. When this limit is reached, older journeys are automatically deleted.
Your cars exact position may not show due to:
- Poor mobile or GPS coverage.
- Data wasn’t transmitted before you last parked the car.
- The car's position does not update when the car is not in use.
When possible, ensure your car has a good network connection as poor mobile or GPS coverage can lead to your journeys not being recorded.Note
If you change any permissions or settings related to the Trips app, drive a short distance to allow the changes to take effect.Tip
Detailed journey information not showing in Trips
If the in-car app isn't showing detailed journey information such as locations, routes and average fuel consumption:
- Ensure Trips is enabled correctly both in the Volvo Cars app and in the car.
- Check that all privacy settings are enabled in both the Volvo Cars app and in the car.
- Make sure location services for the Volvo Cars app are set to Always.
- Trips uses background location to function properly, so make sure that location permissions are enabled in the car.
Additional troubleshooting steps
If the steps above don’t solve the problem, try the following:
- Sign out and back into the Volvo Cars app, wait a few minutes as it may take time for journeys to appear.
- Check if journeys are recorded in the Trips app in your car, as all journeys are registered in the car before appearing in the Volvo Cars app.
- Update or reinstall Trips in the car.
If problems persist you can also try restarting the car's centre display.
After a software update
If your car has been updated with new software:
- You need to drive the car once in order to reactivate the connection to the phone.
- In some cases you might need to wait 24-36 hours for the Trips app to synchronise with the cloud.
