EX40 Comfort and climate

Peace of mind in your demanding day.

Top view illustration of the EX40 multi-zone climate system.

Multi-zone climate controls

Our standard one-zone climate system lets you choose your preferred cabin temperature. The car will optimise fan speed and air distribution, but you can still make manual adjustments.

Opt for a two-zone climate system to allow the driver and passenger to set their own temperatures.

Use the Volvo Cars app to remotely warm or cool the cabin before you get in. If you've got heated seats, you can warm the front seats and steering wheel and de-ice the windscreen and door mirrors. Optimise range by pre-conditioning the cabin while the car is charging.

Air purification technology

Air purification technology with an advanced filter keeps incoming air clear of dust, pollen and harmful PM2.5 particles. When the system’s air quality sensor detects high levels of hazardous gases outside, it automatically shuts the air intakes and activates cabin air re-circulation.

The rear doors and rear power windows can also be locked from the driver’s seat to prevent them from being opened from the inside.

Child safety recommendations
Our approach to child safety includes rigorous testing based on real-life traffic situations. That's why we strongly recommend keeping kids in rear-facing child seats until they’re at least four years old.

Wireless phone charger

Pop your phone on the optional charging pad at the front of the centre console. It fits larger phones and delivers enough power for quick top-ups.

USB-C ports

Charge devices using the two USB-C ports at the front of the centre console. There are two more at the rear of the console.

Power outlet

Run an electric cooler, air mattress pump or camping stove using the 12-volt power outlet in the boot.

EX40 Safety and driver support

For your most precious cargo. []

Avoid collisions

Day or night, our intelligent safety assistance technology can help you detect and avoid other vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. It does this by first warning the driver and then autobraking if the driver fails to react.

Vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists moving in the same direction of the car can be detected under certain speeds and in certain conditions. Detection systems depend on objects being illuminated and require the vehicle’s front and rear lights to work when it is dark. Driver remains responsible for safe driving at all times.

Detects and corrects drifting

If you start drifting across the centre line, a collision with an oncoming vehicle is always a risk. Your car can detect this and correct the steering, helping you back to a safer position on the road.

Steering support is active at speeds between 60 and 140 km/h.

Stay in lane

Your Volvo car can send a subtle vibration through the steering wheel and help steer you back to the centre if you unintentionally start drifting out of your lane.

360° parking view

With four cameras providing a 360° view, our system can help you park confidently even in confined spaces.

Safety features complement safe driving practices and are not intended to enable or encourage distracted, aggressive, or otherwise unsafe or illegal driving. Driver support functions are not a substitute for the driver's attention and judgment. Ultimately, the driver is responsible for the safe operation of the vehicle at all times.

EX40 Charging solutions

Big and little ways to make charging feel routine.

Top up on time

A 20 per cent charge can trigger a charging reminder to help you top up on time. With the reminder, your car offers to list nearby public charging stations on your centre display. Select a station and enjoy turn-by-turn navigation plus an estimated time of arrival and expected charge level on arrival.

Charge more efficiently

Select a charging station as your destination, and your car will pre-condition the battery, pre-heating or pre-cooling it to the optimal temperature for charging. That can make a big difference to how rapidly and efficiently the battery charges when you arrive.

Close-up illustration of the Volvo EX40 center display, highlighting charging mode.

Rapid charging

Charge your EX40 from 10 to 80 per cent in 26 minutes at fast public charging stations. A Volvo Cars wallbox makes rapid charging at home faster, too. Compared to a regular household socket, it can charge your EX40 up to five times faster. You can start and stop charging, schedule charging, and monitor progress on the wallbox and your smartphone.

This figure is the typical time to charge from 10 to 80 per cent at a 200kW DC fast charging station. Figures are preliminary and derived from estimates and calculations performed for the Volvo EX40. These outcomes are not guaranteed. Charging times can vary and depend on factors such as outdoor temperature, battery temperature, charging equipment, battery condition and car condition. Vehicle certification pending.

Plug & Charge

Plug & Charge makes charging your electric Volvo at public stations simple. Just plug in and charge—no apps, cards, or tags needed. The station automatically recognizes your car and starts charging, with the process displayed on your car’s center screen. Billing is automatic for added convenience.

To use Plug & Charge, activate the function and link your car to a compatible charging account. Easily locate Plug & Charge stations via Google Maps on your car’s display or the Volvo Cars app.

Plug and Charge requires compatible infrastructure which is not currently available in all markets.

Features depicted may not be standard or available for all markets, equipment levels and powertrain options.
