January sales: the results are in

Let’s take a look at the interesting nuggets in our first monthly sales report of 2022.

January 2022 sales show a year-on-year increase of 11.5 per cent in sales of our electrified Volvo cars.

The first sales report of the new calendar year has dropped and meanwhile our electrification strategy is moving along very well. Over 30 per cent of our volume in January consisted of Recharge cars, following a year-on-year increase of 11.5 per cent in sales of our electrified cars.

Sales of our fully electric cars also increased strongly, with their share of total sales more than doubling compared to January 2021 to 6.6 per cent. In Europe, Recharge sales now make up more than half of our total volume in the region.

“In Europe, Recharge sales now make up more than half of our total volume in the region.”

The overall picture is more challenging, because despite continued strong demand for our cars and improving production volumes, component shortages continue to hamper retail deliveries to customers.

We delivered 47,561 cars in January, a decline of approximately 20 per cent compared to January last year. In Europe overall volumes fell by around 25 per cent year-on-year; in China that percentage was over 23 per cent, in the US almost 13 per cent.

The underlying demand for our cars is strong and our orderbooks are looking good. However, component shortages are expected to continue as a constraining factor for Volvo and the broader car industry.
