Troubleshooting remote climate control issues with your car

The Volvo Cars app allows you to control your car's climate system remotely. This guide covers common problems and troubleshooting steps.

If you're experiencing problems with the remote climate control function, there are several common issues and solutions you can try.

Note

When using the parking climate function, ensure the car is locked, no keys are left inside, and the car is parked in a well-ventilated area with no risk to people or animals nearby.

Common problems

  • Car parked in an area with poor internet connection or mobile coverage.
  • Low car battery or fuel level.
  • Temporary communication issues between the car and the app.
  • Expired Volvo Cars app subscription.

Basic troubleshooting steps

  • Check internet connection - Ensure both your phone and car have proper internet connectivity. If your car is parked in an area with poor coverage, the Volvo Cars app may only function properly within Bluetooth range.
  • Check battery and fuel levels - Your car needs sufficient battery charge (at least 50%) or fuel (minimum 8 litres).
  • Reinstall the app - Try deleting and reinstalling the Volvo Cars app and sign in with your Volvo ID.
  • Restart your phone - After reinstalling the app, if the problem persists try restarting your phone to re-establish connection.

App and in-car settings

  • In the car's display

Go to Settings > Profiles and verify your Volvo ID is connected to the Owner profile.

  • In the Volvo Cars app

Make sure you're signed in with the correct Volvo ID in the app. If unsure, sign out and back in again.

Advanced troubleshooting steps

If you're still having problems you can try the following:

  1. Start the parking climate manually in the car.
  2. Lock the car.
  3. Try to turn it off remotely via the app.
  4. If unsuccessful, try resetting communication between the car and app by turning off the internet connection and Bluetooth on your phone and then turning them back on again.

Restart the car's centre display

Certain climate control problems can be resolved by restarting the car's centre display.

Reset the TCAM unit (communication module)

In some instances you may may need to restart the car’s Telematics and Connectivity Antenna Module (TCAM).
