Volvo XC90 model year 2026 - Overview
The Volvo XC90 is Volvo’s large, seven-seat SUV and it was the first car to be launched on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo’s advanced modular product platforms that underpin all Volvo cars in the 90 and 60 Series.
The XC90 carries the proud and confident face of Volvo’s design language, along with classic Volvo styling cues. The new air intake, with Volvo Cars’ iconic iron mark, brings a more contemporary look to the premium seven-seater. The renewed interior comes with a redesigned cabin that represents the best of contemporary Scandinavian design. The dashboard incorporates decorative panels made from premium recycled materials for a more textured finish and is split by new vertical air vents.
The reconfigured cabin makes the Volvo XC90 even more practical. Our designers created additional storage space in the centre console, including an additional cupholder, and placed the wireless phone charger behind the central tunnel, separate from the main storage area, for greater convenience.
The XC90 can be specified with one of the best-sounding audio systems in a car – the Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity audio system that can faithfully replicate the acoustics of a stage, a concert hall or a jazz club.
Connectivity and infotainment
The Volvo XC90 comes equipped with the new Volvo Car UX. It’s designed to be a safe and enjoyable way to interact with your car’s central infotainment screen, more focused and personalised than its predecessor, which is further enhanced through Google Automotive Services.
The centrepiece of Google Automotive Services is the access to Google apps and services*, which offer hands-free help with Google Assistant, best-in-class navigation through Google Maps and a broad offer of native in-car apps via Google Play. This is elevated by Volvo Car Connect Plus, that provides unlimited mobile data (for in-car apps and vehicle communication) for 4 years.
For model year 2026, the XC90 was upgraded to include the next-generation Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, making our existing Google Android Auto-based infotainment system much faster and much more responsive. The infotainment system in these models will be more than twice as fast as the outgoing system, with graphics generation that is up to 10 times faster.
Thanks to Volvo Car Connect, the Volvo XC90 is capable of receiving larger software and operating system updates over the air. This enables the car to keep evolving and improving over time, rather than being at its peak when it leaves the factory.
Powertrain technology
The XC90 Plug-in hybrid is powered by Volvo’s latest generation plug-in hybrid powertrain (T8) that delivers 455hp. It features an 18.8kWh battery pack that extends the pure electric possibilities.
Powered by the 145hp motor, the XC90 Plug-in hybrid provides up to 44 miles* (WLTP Combined) of pure electric range – enabling more drivers to cover their daily driving needs on electricity.
With One Pedal Drive in the Plug-in hybrid version, the driver can use the accelerator both for accelerating and braking the car: press for acceleration and lift the pedal for smooth braking all the way to standstill.
The XC90 is also available with a 48 Volt mild hybrid petrol powertrain, with an output of 250hp. The mild hybrid offers smooth take-offs and up to 15 per cent fuel savings and emission reductions in real-world driving.
More details around the powertrain offer can be found in the technical specifications.
Safety and driver assistance
The XC90 showcases Volvo Cars’ focus on automotive safety: the SPA1 platform extensively uses boron steel to increase the vehicle’s strength, alongside numerous safety systems designed to protect people inside and outside the car.
The XC90 is equipped with Volvo Cars’ latest Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensor platform – a modern, scalable active safety system that consists of an array of radars, cameras and ultrasonic sensors. This platform enables the development and deployment of active safety systems in the XC90, such as the detection of other road users, automatic braking, and collision avoidance. Through the Pilot Assist function, it also allows for gentle driver support from standstill up to highway speeds.
