Upgrading your EX90 with a new core computer

If you have an EX90 with model year 2025, your car is eligible for a complimentary upgrade to its core computer.

This is a hardware and software upgrade that will give your car improved performance and computing power while also reducing battery consumption. Your car will also receive new and improved features, as well as some that have previously been delayed.

What is being upgraded

The complimentary upgrade includes a more powerful computer with a dual NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin configuration, giving your car the capability to support new and enhanced features. As the latest software update uses this added processing power and is not compatible with older computer units, it will be delivered together with the hardware upgrade rather than as an over-the-air (OTA) update.

Note

The new computer includes sufficient capacity for future features and does not indicate a shift toward more frequent hardware upgrades.

Upgrading your EX90

This is a complimentary upgrade that requires a physical visit to a Volvo workshop. Your dealer will contact you when the upgrade is available for your car. It will take approximately a day to complete both the hardware and software installation.

You can continue to use your car with its original core computer system. However, with this configuration, your car will not be able to receive future software updates and new features that are only available for the dual Orin configuration.

Note

More details and the exact timing of the EX90 core computer upgrade will be communicated.

New and improved features

Following the hardware upgrade, your car will receive an OTA software update which will automatically install new and improved features. Known issues are also being addressed, including the automatic folding of the exterior mirrors. With this software update, the mirrors now automatically fold in when the car is locked.

New and improved features include, but are not limited to, the following:

Park Pilot Assist[1]

This feature takes control of your car while parking, steering it in and out of parallel spaces. You can access it via the parking view in the centre display.

Time interval to vehicles ahead[1]

Pilot Assist can support you in keeping a target time interval between your car and vehicles ahead. You can adjust the time interval via the driving settings in the centre display.

Connected Safety[2]

Connected Safety allows your car to communicate with other cars through the cloud, which can alert you to accidents or traffic jams further up the road. Connected safety can be enabled or disabled in privacy settings.

Emergency Stop Assist with safety call[3]

If you, as the driver, don’t interrupt Emergency Stop Assist before the car comes to a standstill, the car will automatically contact an emergency call centre to check up on you.

In-car communication

The car can use its built-in microphones and voice amplification to project your voice to passengers in the rear seats. You can activate this in the sound settings.

Manual battery preconditioning

You can use this feature to warm up your car’s battery before a fast-charging session. This helps your car take in power more quickly.

Future updates and ongoing support

The new software enables additional features and addresses quality improvements to help keep your car performing at its best. Your car will continue to receive software updates and support appropriate for its model. While newer cars may support additional features, your car will be improved whenever it is technically possible, helping it stay up to date over time.

If anything unexpected occurs after the upgrade, please contact your dealer for support.

With the new computer configuration, future software updates will be able to be installed over the air.
