Powering a device with the vehicle's battery

You can use your vehicle's battery to charge other devices.

You can use your vehicle's battery to power other electrical devices, such as electrical camping equipment, power tools and a variety of consumer devices. This feature is called Vehicle-to-Load[1] and allows you to transfer AC power from your vehicle to whatever you want to charge, as long as the other device is compatible.

You can access the feature in your vehicle's charging settings. To be able to connect your vehicle to the device you want to charge, you need a special adaptor from Volvo Accessories. Contact an authorized Volvo workshop for more information.

Important

Before you start using the transfer feature, there are some things to consider:
  • Make sure you use an adapter from Volvo Accessories. Contact an authorized Volvo workshop for more information.
  • Make sure you have read all available information about the adapter and device to be charged before you use this feature.
  • Only use the adapter under safe conditions, avoiding rain, water and fire. Do not use the adapter when it's wet.
  • Prevent damage to the adapter during daily use by removing dust or other substances regularly. Make a habit of checking the adapter for dust before using it.
  • Do not submerge the adapter or its components in liquid. If you need to clean the adapter, use a clean cloth lightly dampened with water. If needed, use a mild detergent but never use chemicals or strong solvents.
  • Never use a damaged adapter. If the adapter is found to be damaged, contact an authorized Volvo workshop.

The vehicle must be unlocked or some form of authentication must be used in order to be able to transfer energy.

  1. Open the charging hatch by lightly pressing on its back edge.
  2. Remove any protective covers from the port and cable connector, then insert the adapter into the charging port.
The charging settings automatically open in the charging view in the center display.
  3. In the centre display, go to Advanced settingsTransfer energy to access the transfer energy settings.
  4. Set a transfer limit to avoid discharging your vehicle's battery past a certain battery level. The transfer limit can't be set below 20%.

    Note

You can adjust the transfer limit at any time.
  5. Connect the adapter to an external device.
  6. Press the button on the adapter to start the transfer.
Your vehicle provides power to the other device until the transfer limit is reached. You can see the transfer status in both the center display and the instrument panel.

You can stop the transfer by pressing the button on the adapter.

Note

Do not unplug the adapter without releasing it.
