Software updates

Updating your car’s software ensures that it remains up to date with the latest features and improvements.

Software updates are primarily done over the air (OTA), and all previous updates are included when you install a new update. Keep in mind that you may be charged for installing software updates at a Volvo retailer unless installation is included in your repair or service agreement.

When a new update is available, you will see a notification in the center display and in the Volvo Cars app. The notification gives you an estimate of how long it will take to install the update and tells you what’s included in it.

After installing a software update, the car’s features may vary depending on the market, model, model year and specification.

Updates in software 3.0.18

Software release date: 2026-05-18

Note

This update is only available in workshops and not as an over-the-air download.

All updates are available for installation from the release date at your Volvo retailer or an authorized Volvo workshop. Keep in mind that you may be charged for the installation unless it’s included in a repair or service agreement. If an update isn’t available over the air, you don’t have to schedule an appointment; you can just wait until the next over-the-air update is available. If an update isn’t available in your vehicle, you already have the latest version.

New features

Connected safety

Your vehicle can now alert you to accidents ahead with an added connected safety feature. We’ve also added warnings for large animals, vulnerable road users and road work.

Door retention

When the vehicle detects an approaching cyclist or vehicle and someone is about to open a door, it temporarily holds the door closed to help prevent it from opening into a dangerous situation. You can manually override this feature by pulling the inner door handle twice.

Android 15

Your vehicle now uses Android 15, which supports more apps via Google Play. You can now play audio from video apps while driving, which is controlled via the media widget; this improves usability without creating a distraction.

Android Auto

If you have an Android phone, you can now use Android Auto to listen to music, make phone calls, get driving directions and use apps customized for your vehicle.

Spatial Audio support in CarPlay

Spatial Audio support in CarPlay is now available, creating a multidimensional immersive sound experience that places music and vocals around the cabin.

Silent charging

During silent charging, the core computer stays asleep to save energy and charge the battery more efficiently. Silent charging will automatically be activated when charging power is less than 22kW.

Improvements

Climate control

  • Climate control remains on: Climate control now remains on for a short time when you leave the vehicle or lock it a second time. You can always turn climate control off using the Volvo Cars app or when you start your next drive.
  • Defogging: Adjustments to the defogging functionality to improve efficiency while using auto climate mode.
  • Radar: We’ve calibrated the front radar heating performance to optimize it in cold climates.
  • Display: We’ve made some fixes to the rear climate display to increase the accuracy of the displayed temperature.

Interior lights

  • Buttons: We’ve made some improvements to button backlighting in the overhead console and trunk lighting response time after unlocking the vehicle.

Trunk

  • Hands-free opening: We’ve made some improvements to the sensor for opening the trunk hands-free, providing a smoother user experience.
  • Closing: Some improvements have been added to the audible feedback when closing the trunk.

General improvements

  • Driver understanding: Driver distraction alerts have been updated to provide clearer and more intuitive guidance while driving. We’ve also made improvements to notifications and notification sounds.
  • One Pedal Drive: There is now a fourth One Pedal Drive setting: Low. The available settings are now Off, Low, High and Auto. We’ve also made it possible to select the automatic creeping feature separately.
  • Adjusting suspension feel: A third suspension profile setting, Standard, has been added, so the setting options are now Soft, Standard and Firm.
  • Occupant detection: We’ve made improvements to detection sensitivity so there are fewer false alarms.
  • Mirrors: We’ve made some enhancements to the tinted mirrors to reduce glare and improve driving comfort at night.
  • Sound: You can now open sound settings directly from the media player.
  • Rear display: To prevent the tunnel console rear panel from appearing overly bright at startup, it now automatically switches to night mode after a connectivity interruption. The display then returns to the previously set brightness level.
  • Parking camera: You can now switch to the top view while backing up.
  • Volvo Cars app: Using “Find my vehicle” in the Volvo Cars app now activates both the horn and exterior lighting.
  • Wipers: The rear wiper now automatically activates while reversing if the front wipers are in use.
  • Defrost: We’ve made some minor adjustments to the rear defroster to make it more reliable during all starting conditions.
  • Low battery: The climate system now automatically restarts when the vehicle reaches a sufficient battery level after low charge.
  • Recirculation: If the previous driving cycle ended with recirculation activated, the next driving cycle now starts with the default climate setting, and recirculation is deactivated.
  • Ambiance: Dimming the rear seat ambient lights now works as expected.
  • Trunk: Trunk lighting now activates reliably for all unlocking methods.
  • Preconditioning for fast charging: We’ve made some fixes to optimize starting times.
  • Seat heating: Your personalized seat heating settings now activate automatically.
  • Wireless charging: We’ve made some fixes to prevent a wallet notification when you place a phone on the wireless phone charger.
  • The Auto-Off button in the overhead console now resets automatically when the vehicle is locked.
  • The “All ON” button in the overhead console has had an update to be more consistent and reliable.

Updates in software 1.3.18

Software release date: June 30, 2025.

The previous update (1.3.17) included several improvements to smart charging, digital keys, occupant presence reminders, preconditioning, and more. Building on that, this update brings further refinements to:

  • Digital keys, which are now more reliable. Unlocking is more stable, with fewer “Key not found” errors when starting the vehicle, and the vehicle handles multiple nearby keys better. These changes should make using digital keys smoother and more dependable.
  • Occupant presence reminders, which have been fine-tuned for more consistent behavior when the vehicle is unoccupied. This ensures that the vehicle reacts appropriately to situations that may occur with everyday use.

Updates in software 1.3.17

Software release date: June 16, 2025.

New Features

  • Abbey Road sound mode: Experience music like you're in the legendary London studio. This immersive mode lets you adjust the sound as if you're moving around the recording room (available in vehicles with the Bowers & Wilkins sound system).
  • HD Radio: Enjoy clearer sound and access to more stations with Hybrid Digital Radio (available in the US; see the user manual for details).
  • Curve Speed Assist (CSA): Your vehicle now slows down automatically for curves and roundabouts, making Pilot Assist smoother and more comfortable (not available in China or South Korea).
  • Smart Charging: Set your departure time and let your vehicle charge when it’s most convenient. The vehicle will try to meet your desired target battery level by the selected departure time, deciding when to charge based on factors such as battery health, electricity cost and user preferences. You can create a smart charging schedule in the Charging settings.
